Free Mover Student

What is a Free Mover student?

At the Universidade de Lisboa it is considered students in the free mover regime those who, in a given academic year, enroll in either isolated study-degree curricular units (Licenciaturas, Mestrados or Doutoramentos), or of not awarding degree courses, without following their curriculum.
Thus, the Faculdade de Belas-Artes provides the attendance of isolated course units from their undergraduate and master’s study plans to all interested parties.
Through this method are not permitted applications for internships, seminars (thesis, monograph, report, or other), seminars or professional practice, or other curricular units of the same nature.

Who can apply for the free mover student regime?

Attendance of isolated Licenciatura course units
May apply to the attendance of course units taught in the undergraduate courses of the Faculdade de Belas-Artes everyone who meet the following prerequisites:

  1. Possession of a certificate of qualifications not below secondary school (high school)
  2. Be over 18 years, regardless of the academic qualifications they hold

Attendance of isolated Mestrado course units
May apply to the attendance of course units taught in the master courses of the Faculdade de Belas-Artes everyone who meet cumulatively the following prerequisites:

  1. Holders of an academic degree recognised as comparable to the Portuguese degree of Licenciatura
  2. Holders of an appropriate academic curriculum
When should I submit the application?

The application must be submitted to the Academic Services of the Faculdade de Belas-Artes until 30 days before the start of the semester classes to which the student is applying.

What documents are required to apply?

The application process must include the following documents:

  1. Curriculum vitae;
  2. Copy of certificate of the academic degree;
  3. Copy of passport or national identity card;
  4. Printed porfolio (maximum 15 A4 pages)

The application also implies the filling of an application form provided by the Faculty's Academic Services.

How may I present my application?

In person at the Academic Services
You can submit the application in person at the Academic Services during its usual opening hours.

By regular mail
You may send the application to the Academic Services address, enclosing the required documents and the application form duly completed and signed. In this case, we emphasize that the copy of the academic qualifications document must be certified by someone of authority for it, under the penalty of not being accepted the application.

What are the conditions for admission and enrollment?

Enrollment in individual course units is subject to the approval of the Faculty's Director and of the teacher responsible for the course unit to which the person is applying.
Enrollment can be refused if: the qualifications and / or applicant's resume are not considered appropriate to its frequency; the course unit being taught lacks available resources; or if the unit is not available in the semester to which the person is applying.

What are the conditions of frequency?

A student under the free mover regime that subscribe to individual course units of Licenciatura degree courses, will only be allowed to attend a maximum of 10 to 12 course units or a maximum of 60 ECTS.
A student under the free mover regime that sign up for individual course units in a Mestrado degree course, may not attend more than half of it's curricular component, in a maximum of 30 ECTS.
In case of simultaneous enrollment in courses from two study cycles - Licenciatura and Mestrado - it will only be allowed the frequency to a maximum of 5 individual course units or a maximum of 30 ECTS of the 1st cycle (Licenciatura) and a maximum of 15 ECTS in courses of the 2nd cycle (Mestrado).

How much must I pay?

For the enrollment in individual course units there are application and attendance fees that are determined annually by the Faculty's Director.
The rates that apply to the academic year 2011-2012 are:

  1. 1st cycle (Licenciatura) course units - 20 EUR per ECTS
  2. 2nd cycle (Mestrado) course units - 20 EUR per ECTS

In addition to the above frequency rates, a registration fee of 10 EUR will be charged, as well as the academic insurance (1,40 EUR).

How is made the assessment and certification?

Students in the free mover regime are subject to the same system of assessment as students enrolled in a normal basis. Certificates regarding attendance and ECTS approval may be provided.
The attendance of individual course units does not provide recognition of ownership of part or the whole of the courses of study to which they belong, or confer the right to award a diploma or course degree.
